Jobs event to be hosted by Veterans Service Commission of Summit County on Oct. 3
AKRON, Ohio — Summit County veterans are invited to attend an October career training workshop and jobs event at the Veterans Service Commission of Summit County headquarters at 1060 East Waterloo Road.
The free “Job Boot Camp” and employment opportunity event will begin with a career training workshop from 8-11 a.m. on Oct. 3. A job fair for veterans and their dependents will follow from noon to 3 p.m.
Local employers will be on site. Attendees are encouraged to dress in a professional manner and bring copies of their resumes and DD Form 214.
Veterans in attendance can speak with local professionals for job-interview coaching, dress-for-success tips and an assessment of their soft skills and resumes during the workshop portion.
Representatives from area businesses will be available after to meet with attendees to offer career advice, discuss job opportunities and accept resumes.
“Hardworking veterans can take advantage of fundamental training designed to improve their chances of a successful job search and then immediately apply what they learned by discussing available positions with local business professionals, all in a single day,” David Burden, project manager for the veterans commission, said in a news release.
Commission staff will be present at the event to offer free resources to attendees and discuss online career development and education courses.
Interested participants can attend one or both events. Transportation is available to and from the event through Akron Metro RTA bus No. 2 via the Arlington route.
