(AP) — Second-ranked Michigan State trailed by 27 in the first half and 22 at intermission Saturday before outscoring Northwestern 38-11 in the second half of a 65-60 win against the Wildcats. Michigan State stormed ahead with a 29-4 run over the first 14 1/2 minutes of the second half en route to their 10th consecutive win. Cassius Winston scored 17 points and the Spartans, who improved to 26-3 overall and 14-2 in the Big Ten.
UNDATED (AP) — A pair of top-10 men’s basketball teams lost on Saturday. Terry Maston scored 24 points and hit the go-ahead shot with 1:26 remaining to lead Baylor past seventh-ranked Texas Tech, 59-57. Frank Booker dropped in 19 points and South Carolina put together a 21-1 run on their way to a 37-11 lead in an 84-75 triumph over No. 10 Auburn.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell put on a show in the slam dunk contest to cap off NBA All-Star Saturday. Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns won the 3-point contest with a record 28 points in the final round. Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie won the skills challenge by beating Lauri Markkanen of the Bulls in the final round.
UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to lead the NHL’s Atlantic Division by three points over Boston following losses by both teams. Eddie Lack stopped 48 shots and Taylor Hall ran his point streak to 17 games as the Devils topped the Lightning, 4-3 in Tampa. Vancouver crushed the Bruins, 6-1 as Loui Eriksson scored twice to support Anders Nilsson’s 44-save performance.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bubba Watson has surged to the top of the leaderboard through three rounds of the PGA’s Genesis Open at Riviera. He opened with a tap-in for eagle and fired a 6-under 65 for a 10-under total, one shot ahead of Patrick Cantlay. Watson is a two-time winner at Riviera but hasn’t won in two years.
