SC adjutant general to speak in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. – South Carolina’s adjutant general spoke in Florence Monday evening.
Major Gen. Robert E. Livingston Jr. will be speaking at the November meeting of the Florence County Republican Party. As adjutant general, Livingston administers the South Carolina Army and Air National Guard, the Emergency Management Division, the State Guard, and the Youth Challenge Academy.
Livingston has served in the South Carolina Army National Guard since 1978. He was elected as South Carolina’s last elected adjutant general in 2010. A constitutional amendment made the office appointable by the governor.
He has served in Afghanistan and several locations throughout South Carolina. Livingston has been awarded around 20 medals for his service. Livingston received the Order of the Palmetto in 2016. He is also owner of Gregory Electric Company in Columbia.
The Florence County Republican Party invited Livingston to speak as a way of honoring veterans since their meeting occurs so close to Veterans Day. The Florence Composite Squadron, the local Civil Air Patrol division, will be presenting the colors for the evening. Special recognition will also be awarded to one of the few remaining American veterans of WWII.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Floyd Conference Center on the campus of Carolinas Hospital System.
