Mobile food pantry comes to area

Make sure to bring your own bags or boxes to the upcoming Northern Illinois Food Bank mobile pantries Oct. 9 and 18.

The first event will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the parking lot of King Middle School and Lincoln Cultural Center, 1440 E. Court St., Kankakee.

The second will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Sacred Heart Mission, 16485 E. Birch St., Hopkins Park. Both mobile pantries are open to the public and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Need help applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program? The Northern Illinois Food Bank is holding an informational session about SNAP at the Kankakee Public Library, 201 E. Merchant St., from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17.

The initial SNAP application takes less than an hour to complete, and Northern Illinois Food Bank staff will assist with the process. If you can’t attend on Oct. 17, you can call toll-free for information 844-600-SNAP (7627) or email snap@northernilfoodbank.org.
