PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Portsmouth officials say the first phase of a proposed multi-field athletic complex will cost about $5 million.

The Portsmouth Herald reports city officials released the first "opinion of costs" this week. Public Works Director Peter Rice and Assistant City Manager David Moore estimate that the project will cost $4,992,020. Phase 1 includes laying down turf fields, installing lighting, constructing bathrooms and a concession stand and creating a parking lot.

Portsmouth City Council voted in July to spend as much as $5 million to complete the first phase. The final phase of the project will cost about $5 million.

Rice and Moore say several engineering options could affect costs.
