Gibson’s Patriots have hop in their step
BULLHEAD CITY — Coming off their first victory of the season, the Mohave Accelerated Learning Center Patriots will be shooting for win No. 2.
The Patriots will be playing at 7 tonight at Bagdad High School against the Sultans in an Arizona Interscholastic Association 1A West Region football game.
MALC’s record is 1-5 overall, 1-5 in conference and 1-2 in region, according to aiaonline.org. Bagdad’s record is 4-2 overall, 4-3 in conference and 2-1 in region.
MALC head coach Adam Gibson noticed the difference in his Patriots this week in practice after they earned their first victory of the season.
“(It was) very upbeat,” Gibson said. “Practice had a different feel this week — in a good way.”
The first-year MALC head coach added: “(They were) just holding each other accountable.”
The Patriots were exhibiting their “will to win” during practice, he added.
The Sultans fell to the Salome High School Frogs 28-26 on Sept. 28.
Carson Jeans and Connor Watson have been taking the most snaps at quaterback for the Sultans.
Jeans does most of his work running the football, as the junior quarterback leads the Sultans in rushing with 447 yards on 76 carries with three TD runs.
Watson, while not as active as Jeans, has gained 134 yards on a very productive 13 carries with two TD runs.
Junior Elias Jauregui and senior Owen Barton have recorded five TD runs apiece.
Quarterback Coleton Brooke, and running backs Damien Burries and Logan Cota are three of MALC’s most dangerous offensive weapons.
