Nutrisystem Success Story Alexis Freed Loses 140 Pounds and is Featured in PEOPLE’s “Half Their Size” Issue on Newsstands Today

January 4, 2019

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan 4, 2019--Nutrisystem, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTRI), a leading provider of weight management products and services including Nutrisystem ®,South Beach Diet ®, and DNA Body Blueprint™, announced today that Nutrisystem Success Story, Alexis Freed, is featured in the January 14, 2019 “Half Their Size” issue of PEOPLE, which hits newsstands nationwide today, January 4. The 22-year-old is ringing in the New Year feeling happy and healthy after dropping 140 pounds.

Freed found herself as a high school freshman at a peak weight of 285 pounds. She struggled to fit into the desk in her classroom and was being bullied by classmates. Her health was declining, she was pre-diabetic and suffered from sleep apnea. Her doctor and loved ones were worried and she knew she had to regain control.

“I was fed up and wanted to make a change,” says Freed. “I started to cut out fast food and junk food, but couldn’t see myself sticking to a strict diet. I would always revert back to unhealthy eating habits. My mom saw I was frustrated with myself and sat me down. She said, ‘Let’s do the research and see what will work for you. I don’t want you to miss out on being a child.’”

Freed and her mother consulted her doctor and decided Nutrisystem would be a great fit. “We bought my first kit and I never looked back,” added Freed. “Nutrisystem is so convenient and I could take it on the go. It was easy for me to take with me to school and I immediately started seeing results, which gave me the motivation to keep going.”

“As the weight fell off, I began exercising and started gaining more and more confidence. I was so excited to be able to shop for new clothes and look and feel stylish. I had started high school at 285 pounds and by my senior year, I weighed 145 pounds! I could honestly say for the first time in my life, I was confident in my own skin. Now three years after graduating, I have kept off the weight and feel extremely proud of myself and my weight loss journey.”

“Alexis is such an inspiration, especially to young people struggling with their weight,” said Dawn Zier, CEO of Nutrisystem, Inc. “We are incredibly proud of her and know she will continue on in good health, helping others achieve their goals along the way.”

“Nutrisystem changed the way I approach food altogether. It taught me what portions should look like. It taught me that I didn’t have to completely cut the yummy stuff out to see results. I’ve learned how to avoid making bad choices and my plate looks totally different with the addition of healthy carbs, fruits and vegetables. I know what I can eat now to maintain my weight and am so thankful.”
