Ex-Brimfield official faces embezzlement charge
BRIMFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Brimfield’s former treasurer has been charged with embezzling more than $80,000 from the town.
Kirsten Weldon is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 29 on charges including larceny and embezzlement by a municipal officer.
Authorities allege that the 43-year-old Weldon stole money and services from the town between July 2006 and April 2, when she resigned.
The Republican of Springfield (http://bit.ly/18aBDHt ) reports that investigators say she accepted cash payments that were never deposited into town bank accounts. She also allegedly switched to a family health plan but continued paying for an individual plan, resulting in a loss of more than $11,000 to the town.
Weldon could not be reached for comment. She admitted making “mistakes” when she resigned in April.
