Westminster Man Dies in Two-car Rollover Crash on Rt. 2 Friday Night

Westminster's Craig Dougherty, the driver of the Honda Civic that came to rest on its roof, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene Friday night after his vehicle ran into the back of the Jeep and rolled over. The two-car crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Friday on Route 2 near the Recovery Centers of America. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were transported to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital in Leominster for treatment. Their condition was unavailable.

WESTMINSTER -- A 58-year-old Westminster man died Friday night after his car rolled over in a crash on Route 2.

Craig Dougherty was heading east near the Recover Centers of America at about 9:30 p.m. when his 2004 Honda Civic struck a 2014 Jeep from behind and caused it to roll over, state police said.

He was ejected from his 2004 Honda Civic and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old man from Arlington, Texas, who drove the Jeep and a 25-year-old Haverhill man who was the passenger, were both taken to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital in Leominster for minor injuries, according to state police.

The right travel land and breakdown lane closed for about four hours.

State police collision analysis and reconstruction and crime scene services teams are investigating the crash.

Westminster police and fire, the chief medical examiner’s office, and MassDOT assisted on scene, said police.
