HARVEY WEINSTEIN - DEFENSE
NEW YORK (AP) — Now that a New York City prosecutor has begun building a case against Harvey Weinstein, the lawyer for the disgraced movie mogul says he and his client are building a defense. Until now, all Weinstein has done was say — through a representative — that he denies any claims of forced sexual contact. Now, attorney Ben Brafman says Weinstein is helping to stack up what the lawyer calls “overwhelming evidence” to support his defense. Weinstein was in court yesterday, during which he pleaded not guilty to the latest indictment against him. He is now free on $1 million bail — and is due back in court on Sept. 20.

KEVIN SPACEY - SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
NEW YORK (AP) — One of Kevin Spacey’s co-stars on “House of Cards” says she and the rest of the cast were surprised and saddened about the sexual misconduct allegations against the actor. In an interview on “Today,” Robin Wright says she “didn’t know the man” — in that she and Spacey only knew each other between “action and cut.” She says he was always professional — and that the two often shared giggles between scenes. Spacey was fired from the Netflix series after several employees accused him of inappropriate behavior. More than 15 men have since made allegations against Spacey.
GEOFFREY RUSH - DEFAMATION
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush has pulled out of Shakespeare stage production in Australia. The move comes as Rush is suing a newspaper in Sydney for defamation. In a statement he says he knows he won’t have the strength and stamina to get through the seven-week run of “Twelfth Night” due to begin Nov. 12. The actor is suing the Daily Telegraph of Sydney for defamation. At issue are articles last December accusing him of inappropriate behavior toward an actress during a 2015 production of “King Lear.” Rush denies the allegations.
POLANSKI’S WIFE REJECTS ACADEMY INVITE
NEW YORK (AP) — If you don’t want my husband around, don’t ask me around, either. That’s the position the wife of Roman Polanski has taken toward an invitation from Motion Picture Academy. In a seething open letter, French actress Emmanuelle Seigner turned down an invite to join the academy. The invitation comes a few months after the organization booted Polanski and Bill Cosby for violating its newly installed code of conduct. In the letter she wonders how the academy could give Polanski an Oscar then turn around and kick him out of the organization. Polanski was booted from the Oscar ranks because he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl — then fled the U.S. when it appeared he’d draw more than a token sentence.
JOHNNY DEPP HIT WITH LAWSUIT
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A film crew member says in a lawsuit that Johnny Depp twice punched him on the Los Angeles set of a movie about the killing of the Notorious B.I.G. And the suit says he was fired from the movie when he refused to promise not to sue over the incident. The lawsuit by location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks also targets the film’s director and producer, saying they were all involved in his ouster. He is seeking unspecified damages.
GAL GODOT - HOSPITAL
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — Movie star Gal Gadot surprised children at a Virginia hospital with a superhero moment: She visited them wearing her costume from popular “Wonder Woman” film. Gadot doled out hugs, kisses, and autographs Friday at Inova Children’s Hospital in northern Virginia. She posed for photos with patients and staffers, and those started popping up on social media over the weekend. Crews have been shooting “Wonder Woman 1984″ in the Washington region in recent weeks.
TAB HUNTER DIES
UNDATED (AP) — Tab Hunter, the blond actor and singer who was a heartthrob for millions of teenagers in the 1950s with such films as “Battle Cry” and “Damn Yankees” and received new attention decades later when he revealed that he was gay, has died. He was 86. Producer and spouse Allan Glaser said Hunter died Sunday of a blood clot in his leg that caused cardiac arrest. Glaser called the death “sudden and unexpected.” Hunter was a star for several years. In addition to his hit movies, his recording of “Young Love” topped the Billboard pop chart in 1957.
