March 14, 1991

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) _ New California third baseman Gary Gaetti sparked a seven-run third inning with a two-run homer and the Angels went on to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Wednesday.

Ahead 1-0, the Angels broke it open with the seven-run third inning. After a one-out error, Gaetti hit his first homer of the spring - a drive to left that caromed off Darryl Hamilton’s glove and over the fence.

Brandy Vann took over for starter Mark Knudson with two on and one out, and Junior Felix reached on an error, allowing another run to score. Dick Schofield followed with an RBI single and Luis Polonia scored a run with a grounder to first.

Run-scoring singles by Luis Sojo and Wally Joyner finished the outburst off Vann, making it 8-0.

Gaetti, Polonia, Felix, Schofield and Lance Parrish had two hits apiece as the Angels reached the Brewers for 15 hits.

Right-hander Kirk McCaskill started for the Angels and blanked the Brewers on one hit for three innings. McCaskill walked one and struck out one.

Milwaukee’s Dave Parker hit a 400-foot-plus home run to right-center, and Franklin Stubbs also homered for the Brewers.

Milwaukee fell to 1-6 with the loss.
