Duquesne 36, St. John’s 9

NEW YORK (AP) _ Andre Hatcher, who carried 23 times for 132 yards, scored on runs of 8, 14 and 6 yards as undefeated Duquesne crushed St. John’s 36-9 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Saturday.

After Christian Soto of St. John’s (1-1, 0-1) kicked a 32-yard field goal with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Hatcher scored on an 8-yard run 52 seconds into the second and the Dukes (2-0, 2-0) were on top to stay.

Roussan Powell’s 3-yard run with 28 seconds to play in the half boosted the visitors’ lead to 14-3.

Jermaine Creighton of St. John’s scored on a 1-yard run at 13:34 of the third quarter, but Soto’s conversion attempt was blocked and run back for two points by Bill Sepich, giving the Dukes a 16-9 advantage.

Joe Rosato’s 45-yard run at 4:17 boosted the advantage to 23-9 and Hatcher followed with two fourth-quarter scoring runs.
