Boston U. 6, Wisconsin 3
MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Jon Jenkins and David Sacco scored short-handed goals and Madison native J.P. McKersie made 31 saves Tuesday night as Boston University defeated three- time defending tournament champion Wisconsin 6-3 in the Badger Hockey Showdown finals.
Jenkins skated down the left side and slid a shot between Badgers goalie Jon Michelizzi’s pads at 14:59 of the second period to put the Terriers up for good at 3-2.
Boston added another goal just over two minutes later on a power play when Jay Pandolfo scored while falling down in front of the goal after a furious scramble for the puck.
Sacco’s slap shot with the Terriers short-handed made it 5-2 at 7:47 of the final period. Jacques Joubert added a power-play score with three minutes left and sent crowd of 17,749 at the Bradley Center home disappointed.
The Badgers got a final short-handed goal from Jamie Spencer with 23 seconds remaining.
Wisconsin fell to 10-7-1 and BU is now 9-4-1.
The Terriers took a 2-1 lead early in the second when Michelizzi caught Mark Bavis’ shot with his glove only to drop it into the goal.
Wisconsin tied it at 7:27 as Rob Granato received a cross-ice pass from Chris Tucker to score.
Wisconsin went ahead 1-0 at 6:21 of the first when Jason Zent scored on a power play. Zent converted a rebound shot after Granato had lost control on an attempted shot to the left side of the goal.
Boston tied it 6:20 later when Doug Friedman scored after picking up a loose puck that Wisconsin defenseman Maco Balkovec mishandled near the net.
