NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) — A judge has denied bail for an Orleans man awaiting trial on charges that he killed his wife, saying the man poses a flight risk.

The Caledonian Record reports the judge also denied setting conditions for 58-year-old Randall Swartz’s release, citing his “volatility” and willingness to follow the conditions.

Swartz is charged with murder in the shooting death of his 54-year-old wife Thea Swartz. He has pleaded not guilty.

Police say Swartz shot his wife at their home May 15 while she called 911 for help.

Swartz is facing additional charges of mail fraud. Investigators say he defrauded Agri-Mark, his former employer, by buying parts with company funds and using them to build machines for his personal use.
