COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) _ Debbie Bilbao threw a three-hitter to lead Iowa to a 1-0 elimination game victory over California on Saturday night in the NCAA softball World Series.

Iowa (49-18) faces Arizona in one semifinal game on Sunday. Arizona beat Iowa 5-2 in the opening round.

Bilbao (23-10) had a perfect game until Melanie McCart opened the fifth with a double. Cal’s other hits were singles in the sixth and seventh innings. Bilbao struck out one and didn’t walk any.

The Hawkeyes scored in the first inning. Lea Twigg singled to left with one out, reached third on Christy Hebert’s bloop double and scored when center fielder Maiko Bristow bobbled the ball.

Losing pitcher Whitney Floyd (22-13) gave up five hits, struck out five and walked two.

Cal’s loss marks the first time in 15 World Series games that a Pac-10 team has lost to team outside its conference.

The Golden Bears finished the season with a 41-23 record.
