1 killed, 2 injured after wrong-way crash in Durham

One person died and several others were hospitalized Sunday morning after a head-on crash near the intersection of E. Cornwallis Road and Miami Boulevard.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. According to Durham officials, a Ford Edge was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Miami Boulevard when it struck a Nissan Altima head-on.

The driver of the Ford Edge, identified as Anthony Carr, 51, of Durham, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. His passenger was transported to Duke with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the driver of the Nissan Altima was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the Ford Edge was likely traveling the wrong way on S. Miami Boulevard for a “significant distance” before the crash. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
