Auburn community college plans appeal of $570K federal fine
SEATTLE (AP) — The U.S. Department of Education has issued more than $570,000 in fines to a community college south of Seattle, finding it failed to accurately track crime statistics and publish fire and safety reports.
The Seattle Time reports Green River College President Suzanne Johnson said in a statement this week that administrators plan to appeal the fine amount, but the school does not dispute most of the findings.
The Department of Education found violations from 2008 to 2015, including incomplete crime logs and failures to develop a drug-prevention program and policy statements on sexual assault and security.
According to the school’s response to the findings, the violations occurred when the college in Auburn transitioned through two presidents and lost an executive staff member and three directors of campus safety.
