Army opts for APC9K subcompact gun to protect key leaders on security details
Key U.S. leaders and military commanders will soon rely on Swiss engineering to protect them on security details the APC9K subcompact weapon.
BT, USA (formerly Brugger Thomet) has come a long way since opening shop and selling suppressors in 1991. The company recently bested Sig Sauer and four other companies for the prestigious weapons contracts.
The announcement was made on the government business website fbo.gov Monday.
“The Army sought a concealable weapon for personal security details that protect high-risk personnel such as the secretary of the Army, chief of staff or senior commanders,” Army Times reported Monday. “BT will manufacture 350 guns and accessories such as spare parts, slings, and manuals. The Army has the option to purchase up to 1,000 under the terms of the contract, which is valued at more than $2.5 million.”
BT originated in Thun, Switzerland, and boasts more than 300 different types of firearms in its reference collection.
