Johnson ends East Central’s playoff run
For the second time in four years, Johnson proved to be an area-round roadblock for East Central.
In the 2016 season, the Jaguars swept the second-round series. This time, the District 26-6A champion Hornets (26-9-1) were able to hold off Johnson and claim Game 1 on Thursday.
However, the Jaguars (32-7) made a Game 2 statement with a 12-0 win in five innings on Friday. In Game 3 on Saturday, they grabbed the early lead and held off East Central for a 3-1 decision. All three games were at the North East Stadium.
“We knew coming in it was going to be a tough series,” third-year East Central coach J.K. Moody said. “Johnson has very talented kids and a really good coach in (Gordon) Gesell.”
