EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rehoboth, Massachusetts, man is facing charges after police say he crashed his car while drag racing on Interstate 195, causing a light pole to burst into flames.

Twenty-year-old Stephen T. Conti was arrested Tuesday night and charged with reckless driving. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

Rhode Island State Police say the crash happened Tuesday evening near Exit 5. Conti and his passenger refused medical treatment.

All eastbound lanes were closed briefly as emergency crews extinguished a fire.

Witnesses told police Conti was racing another car. Police are looking for the second vehicle involved in the accident.

It's unclear whether Conti is represented by an attorney.
