March 14, 2019

RINGWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a head-on crash in northern New Jersey has left two people dead and another injured.

Ringwood police say a car driven by 19-year-old Victor Weinpel, of Wanaque, struck a guardrail and then crossed over into the opposite lane and collided with a van around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Weinpel and his passenger, a 17-year-old West Milford resident, were pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver, a 64-year-old Ringwood man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. It did not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Authorities say the crash caused major travel delays in the area.
