Cheerleader hurt during practice settles suit against town
TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut town has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by a former high school cheerleader severely injured in a fall during practice.
The Connecticut Post reports that the settlement was reached just as the suit was about to go to trial. The town of Trumbull will split the settlement with the Gymnastics and Cheerleading Academy of Fairfield, where the injury occurred.
Terms were not disclosed.
According to the suit, Trumbull High School senior Kristen Galuardi in December 2014 was thrown into the air, hit her head on the floor and lost consciousness. Despite her injuries, her coach did not seek medical help.
Galuardi’s lawyer says his now 22-year-old client continues to suffer neurological effects. He called the settlement “a mutually satisfying result.” A town attorney and a gym spokeswoman declined comment.
