Homeowner charged with murder in woman’s shooting death
GOLDEN VALLEY — A Golden Valley man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Kingman woman last month.
Gerald Richardson, 57, was arrested at his residence on Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Oct. 27 shooting death of Jessica Mae Orozco, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen.
Orozco, 31, was shot once after allegedly entering Richardson’s home in the 1100 block of Concho Drive in Golden Valley just before midnight on Oct. 27.
According to the original investigation into the shooting, Orozco reportedly arrived at the residence with two children, one of whom lived at that location. Orozco attempted to enter the home through the front door. Richardson, according to sheriff’s office reports, was startled by Orozco’s arrival — he told authorities he wasn’t expecting anyone at that time of night — and thought it was an intruder attempting to break in.
He fired a single shot from a handgun, striking Orozco. Medical personnel were called to the scene and tried to revive Orozco, but she was pronounced dead at Kingman Regional Medical Center.
The children, who had remained outside the residence, were not injured.
According to Mortensen, the investigation is ongoing. No court date for Richardson has been announced.
