Police Arrest Man Suspected of Slaying Americans
ANGELES, Philippines (AP) _ Police on Monday captured a man suspected of killing three Americans near Clark Air Base in 1987, a spokesman said.
Police spotted Reynaldo Cunanan, 25, and chased him into a brothel where they arrested him, said police commander Lt. Col. Amado Espino.
Cunanan is believed to have taken part in the Oct. 28, 1987, slayings of three Americans and a Filipino of U.S. ancestry by a communist assassination squad outside Clark Air Base, Espino said. The base is in Angeles, a town 50 miles north of Manila.
Espino said Cunanan is a member of the urban guerrilla Mariano Garcia Brigade and also is suspected in the August 1987 assassination of police Capt. Francisco Timbol, who was gunned down near Angeles city hall.
The guerrillas want to establish a Marxist state.
