CHS swims prelims at state

The Columbus High Swim team opened the state meet on Friday in Lincoln with nine events on the schedule and hopes for advancing to Saturday’s finals.

The girls 200 medley relay was first up. Maddisen Schulz, Emily Miksch, Stefani Padilla and Julia Salerno took over a second off of the best CHS time this season but missed qualifying for finals by just two seconds, finishing in 17th.

Julia Salerno then swam in the 50 freestyle. She placed 26th with a 25.93.

The girls 200 free relay swam a season-best time for the Discoverers with a 1:45.01. Miksch, Kaira Dallman, Schulz and Salerno placed 19th.

In the girls 100 breaststroke, Miksch was 0.2 seconds away from qualifying for finals on Saturday.

She swam a season best 1:10.60 and finished in 18th.

In the girls 400 free relay, Macy Blaser, Alex Freshour, Schulz and Salerno set a season-best time by six seconds placing 23rd with a 3:57.94.

In the boys 200 medley relay, Jayven Krepel, Gabe Moseman, Jaden Miller and Konner Kudron set a new season best by almost three seconds. the CHS team placed 24th.

With three races remaining the Discoverers were still looking to send an event to the finals.

Before Telegram reporters left to cover district basketball games, the boys 200 freestyle relay, boys 100 breaststroke and the boys 400 freestyle relay were left on the schedule.
