Police: Detroit Woman Tried To Cash Fraudulent Checks In Clarks Summit

January 10, 2019

CLARKS SUMMIT — A Detroit, Michigan woman faces forgery and other charges after she tried to cash a fraudulent check at a borough bank.

Borough police started questioning Jonisha Blalock, 9551 Braile St. , after she tried to cash the $1,503.31 check at Citizens Savings Bank, 538 S. State St. Officers talked to bank officials and learned Blalock had cashed checks totaling more than $4,500 at other branches in Scranton and Taylor, police said. Blalock used a fake utility bill from a borough residence to get a Pennsylvania ID and made the checks appear as though they were from Home Instead Senior Care, police said. Staff at the business said they’d never heard of Blalock and don’t issue payroll checks, but instead use direct deposit, police said.

Bail and preliminary hearing information was not available today.
