Tickets for Athens Olympics Go on Sale
ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ Tickets for the 2004 Olympics went on sale to the public Monday, with the initial response exceeding that of the Sydney Games.
Early indications show a ``very high demand,″ said Mary Manolopoulou, the 2004 ticketing manager. She declined to give figures.
She said requests from national Olympic committees _ which sell tickets to the public _ outpaced initial orders for the 2000 Games.
About 2.3 million tickets have been available to Olympic sponsors and IOC officials. The remaining 3 million tickets reserved for the public will be on sale until June 12.
Of the total tickets available, 3.6 million, or 68 percent, will cost between $11 and $33. The top price for a sports event will be $327 while tickets for the opening ceremony range from $109 to $1,035.
