Beer calendar: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery events, releases from Great Lakes, Masthead, more

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Great Lakes Brewing Co., Masthead Brewing Co. and Hoppin’ Frog Brewery are among local breweries with releases and events coming up in Northeast Ohio. We update our beer calendar weekly. Have an item to submit? Deadline is Thursday; email me.

SEPTEMBER

Monday, Sept. 3: People’s-choice voting of local breweries will be held on the fourth night of Cleveland Oktoberfest. It’s at the Cuyahoga County fairgrounds. Here’s last year’s winners.

Tuesday, Sept. 4: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Tower Tuesday 3-9 p.m. The folks at the brewery will be blending beers with unique ingredients to concoct interesting flavor combinations. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Tuesday, Sept. 4: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. The organization provides home repairs to low-income homeowners. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: Hofbrauhaus’s keg tapping is at 6:45 p.m. It’s at 1550 Chester Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold pint night / meet the brewers. Pints and barrel-aged 1/2 pints are $5 3-7 p.m. Meet the brewers is 5-7 p.m. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Thursday, Sept. 6: Jukebox Cleveland will hold “Randall Night” at 5 p.m. The vessel allows for beer to be infused with fruit. The bar will screen an episode of “That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It.” Dogfish Head beers on draft: 60 Minute IPA with fresh grapefruit and lemon wedges, Punkin Ale and Liquid Truth Serum IPA. Thursday, Sept. 6: Great Lakes Brewing Co. will hold a 30th anniversary celebration at 11:30 a.m. There’s will be specials on Dortmunder Gold, free brewery tours noon-8 p.m., free scoops of Mitchell’s ice cream 6-8 p.m., beer-label photo booth 5-8 p.m. and food specials from 1988. Great Lakes is at 2516 Market Ave., Cleveland.

Thursday, Sept. 6: Great Lakes Brewing Co. will release 12-packs of 16-ounce cans of Moondog Ale in the gift shop. It’s at 2516 Market Ave., Cleveland.

Thursday, Sept. 6: McBill’s Beverage will hold a tasting of Sibling Revelry Brewery beers 4-7 p.m. It’s at 1015 E. 185th St., Cleveland.

Thursday, Sept. 6: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Throwback Thursday 3-9 p.m. Rare bottles will be 20 percent off for on-premise consumption only. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Friday, Sept. 7: National Beer Lover’s Day.

Saturday Sept. 8: The annual Wine and Beer Fall into Courage fundraiser is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 (advance), $55 (at the door). It’s at the Ehrnfelt Event Center, 18100 Royalton Road, Strongsville.

Saturday, Sept. 8: Great Lakes Brewing Co. is celebrating the return of Oktoberfest at 11 a.m. with a daylong party. Includes live music, Bavarian-inspired food specials and giveaways. It’s at 2516 Market Ave., Cleveland.

Monday, Sept. 10: Great Lakes Brewing Co. will release 12-packs of 16-ounce cans of Moondog Ale in retail distribution.

Monday, Sept. 10: Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s Giving Mondays take place on the second Monday each month. A dollar of every pint sold will go to a different non-profit organization. Today’s beneficiary: LEAP. Great Lakes is at 2516 Market Ave., Cleveland.

Tuesday, Sept. 11: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is Make-A-Wish at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Thursday, Sept. 13: The Rail’s beer school will feature Millersburg Brewing Co. Call 440-979-1979. It’s at 400 Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted.

Thursday, Sept. 13: The 12th annual Sips & Dips will be held at Collision Bend Brewing Co. 6-9 p.m. Tickets for the event – a benefit for UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital - cost $60 and include wine and beer samples from Wente Family Estates, M Cellars and Collision Bend and hearty appetizers from Collision Bend. It’s at 1250 Old River Road, in Cleveland’s Flats East Bank.

Saturday, Sept. 15: Masthead Brewing Co. will release Galaxy Vice (single-hop NEIPA) and Fruit Blood Double Smoothie IPA with red raspberries, black berries and lactose. It’s at 11 p.m. at 1261 Superior Ave., Cleveland.

Saturday, Sept. 15: West Side Catholic Center will hold its fifth annual Sips & Swigs at RedSpace in Cleveland. Includes souvenir glass, food, raffles and entertainment. Tickets range from $25 to $65. Contributing breweries so far: Avon, Bad Tom Smith, Black Cloister, Boss Dog, Brick & Barrel, Elevator, Fat Head’s, Great Lakes, Hansa, HiHo, Market Garden Brewery, Masthead, North High, Ohio Brewing, Penn Brewery, Railroad, Rhinegeist, Royal Docks, Saucy Brew Works, Sibling Revelry, Southern Tier, Urban Artifact, Western Reserve Meadery, Western Reserve Distillers, Working Class Brewery, Zaftig. Friday, Sept. 21: Greater Cleveland Aquarium will feature fall wines 7-10 p.m. at its adult swim event. Includes 20 tasting tickets, souvenir tasting glass, light hors d’oeuvres and full after-hours aquarium access. Tickets are $40 ($30 for annual passholders, $20 for designated drivers). It’s at 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland.

Friday, Sept. 21: Heinen’s will hold a tasting of 10 Oktoberfest beers 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15. Register via eventbrite. It’s at 900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: D’Agnese’s will hold a five-course beer dinner featuring Rhinegeist of Cincinnati at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $40. It’s at 566 White Pond Dr., at Interstate 77 in Akron.

Saturday, Oct. 6: The Cleveland Brew Shop’s Beer and Brewing 101 class is noon-3 p.m. Cost is $30 (one person), $40 (two). Includes class, tasting, lunch and a gallon of beer. It’s at 4142 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

This is the first day. Breweriana (cans, signs, openers, trays, etc.) of all kind will be on display for swap and sale. Includes indoor mini-golf, raffle, live entertainment, more. Saturday, Oct. 20: Brewzilla, the grand-finale tasting for Cleveland Beer Week, will be at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.

NOVEMBER

Saturday, Nov. 3: The Cleveland Brew Shop’s Beer and Brewing 101 class is noon-3 p.m. Cost is $30 (one person), $40 (two). Includes class, tasting, lunch and a gallon of beer. It’s at 4142 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Friday, Nov. 16: The Wine Spot will feature Columbus Brewing 6:30-9 p.m. It’s at 2271 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

Saturday, Nov. 17: Greater Cleveland Aquarium’s Adult Swim series will feature Christmas ales and ciders. Cost is $40 ($30, aquarium passholders) and includes light hors d’ouevres. Event is expected to sell out. The aquarium is at 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland.

DECEMBER
