Millikin receives $5M in donations for new baseball field
DECATUR, Ill. (AP) — The Millikin University baseball team will be playing on a new on-campus field next spring thanks to $5 million in private donations.
The ( Decatur) Herald and Review reports the all-weather field will include stadium seating, artificial turf, a clubhouse, lights, batting cages and concessions.
When it opens, the Decatur university will be the first in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin to have an on-campus, baseball-only facility with a full turf field and clubhouse.
Most of the money was donated by Gary Workman and his family, who also contributed $2 million for a new softball field that opened last year.
Millikin baseball coach Brandon Townsend says having an on-campus facility like this one “takes us to another level.” He says players are “wowed by the support.”
