J. Michael Cleary
J. Michael Cleary, 64, of Ashkum, passed away Sunday (Sept. 23, 2018) at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, following a short illness.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton and will include a parish prayer service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 29, at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum, with the Rev. James Holup and the Rev. Douglas Hauber officiating. Burial will be in the Ashkum Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago or Vital Bridges of Chicago.
Mr. Cleary was born May 20, 1954, in Kankakee, the son of Jeremiah J. and Victoria Leszczewicz Cleary.
His parents preceded him in death, as did a brother, Patrick Cleary.
Surviving are his life partner, John Friend, of Ashkum. He also is survived by a sister and two nieces, Ann E. Flink and Katie Jo Curtis.
Mr. Cleary was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum. He was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind., and had worked for more than 30 years in the medical industry; he currently was an advocate for the aged.
Mike was good-natured, enjoyed life and always was willing to give anyone a helping hand.
