Custer VFW hosts painting fundraiser
CUSTER — Step-by-step, the participants followed along as artist Joann Snay demonstrated how to paint the scene — a starry sky, white fireworks and wispy red and white clouds that resemble an American flag, as well as a silhouette of a bald eagle soaring above a treeline.
Together, the group of 24 Custer VFW members, their family and folks from the community recreated on their own canvasses an original painting by Snay titled “American Pride.” Snay said the painting is patriotic, so it “goes perfectly with the VFW.”
The VFW and Auxiliary Gold Bar Post 5096 in Custer hosted Snay to lead a painting party and fundraiser Tuesday evening at the post.
Snay said this was the first time her Manistee-based painting party business, Artful Creations, held an event for the Custer VFW.
“It’s great to be able to help out places that need fundraising,” Snay said. “Everybody has a good time with (painting). It’s a nice wholesome activity.”
Snay said that $10 from each participant Tuesday would be donated to the Custer VFW, so the post would receive $240 total.
