High school student dies 2 days after being pulled from pool
LANSING, Ill. (AP) — A 14-year-old student has died two days after being pulled from the swimming pool at an eastern Illinois high school.
WLS-TV and the (Tinley Park) Daily Southtown report that the teenager died Friday in a Chicago hospital.
He was underwater Wednesday afternoon in the deep end of the pool during swim practice at Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing when another swimmer pulled him out.
The 14-year-old was a student at Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City. The swim team is comprised of students from both schools.
Authorities say the school district has notified parents and will make grief counselors available to students.
