Barktober Fest will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Road. The event will feature vendors, a cash bar, costume contests for pets and humans, free dog park admission and music from Beth Spangler. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger. Indie Author Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. The event will feature speakers and workshops on topics related to independent book publishing, marketing, writing and more. Local authors also will be on hand to sign and sell books. The Community Medical Clinic of Aiken County will hold Pilates to Light Up Aiken County at 9 a.m. today at the clinic 244 Greenville St. N.W. The cost is $10, and includes refreshments and “mocktails.” A portion of the proceeds will benefit the United Way of Aiken County and the clinic.
