Get rid of expired medications

Area sites are collecting unwanted medications, the Allen County sheriff’s department said today.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, residents can dispose of them properly by taking them to select locations, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

It said medications must be in their original bottles or packages, and no liquids will be accepted. The medications can be dropped off at these Walgreen’s locations and area hospitals:

5830 N. Clinton St. at St. Joe Center Road; 6202 W. Jefferson Blvd. at Getz Road; 6730 Bluffton Road at Lower Huntington Road; 330 W. State Blvd. at Wells Street; 907 Lincoln Highway W. at Brookwood in New Haven; 10170 Maysville Road at Chapel Ridge; 1701 E. Paulding Road at South Anthony Boulevard; 5435 E. Dupont Road at Tonkel Road; 10211 Chestnut Plaza Drive at Scott Road; 11932 Lima Road at Carroll Road; 10412 Coldwater Road at Dupont Road; 2410 Coliseum Blvd. N. at East State Boulevard; 6201 Stellhorn Road at Maplecrest Road; 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd., at Lutheran Hospital; and 11109 Parkview Plaza Drive at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Area police and select drugstores also have an ongoing collection sites for pills only, at the Allen County sheriff’s department at the Huntertown Town Hall; the Fort Wayne Police station, Edwin J. Rousseau Centre Lobby, One E. Main St.; and the New Haven Police station, 815 Lincoln Highway E.

Walgreen’s ongoing site collection locations are:

6202 W. Jefferson Blvd. at Getz Road; 6201 Stellhorn Road at Maplecrest Road; and 10412 Coldwater Road at Dupont Road.
