NY firefighter rescues child locked in hot car; dad arrested
NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a firefighter rescued a crying child locked in a car on a hot summer day in New York City.
The 5-year-old boy was safe Friday, after being rescued a day earlier by a city firefighter.
On Thursday afternoon, Firefighter Matthew Clinton found the boy at a shopping center in Queens, in a car seat, sweating and crying that it was hot inside.
Clinton smashed a window with a hammer to get the boy out.
His father, Geremie Ram, faces charges including endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court date on Sept. 19.
His attorney did not immediately respond to a call for comment.
Last month, twin 1-year-olds died after their father left them in a car in the Bronx.
