Man gets life in prison for Boulder shooting death

August 23, 2018

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A Boulder man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for shooting and killing another man in the street.

The Daily Camera reports 53-year-old Cody Nelson was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder in the February 2016 death of 31-year-old Andrew Duncan.

Prosecutors said Duncan had been at Nelson’s residence because he was concerned the mother of his unborn child was using heroin at Nelson’s house. They said Duncan was leaving the house when he was shot.

Video of the shooting shows Duncan fell after the first shot and Nelson walked up, stood over his him and fired nearly a dozen more shots into his body.

Defense attorneys argued Nelson was protecting the woman from Duncan. Prosecutors argued there was no evidence Duncan was a threat.
