GIRLS SOCCER: Lee Williams tops Havasu, 4-2 , in season opener
KINGMAN — The Lake Havasu girls soccer team stumbled in its first start of the season, falling to Kingman Lee Williams 4-2 on the road Monday night.
Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Havasu tied the game early in the second half, but the Volunteers were able to retake the lead and seal the game on goals from Sadie Serrano and Maritza Saucedo.
The Knights have had tough luck in the first game of the season dating back nearly a decade, losing their opening outing each of the last seven years. Monday’s game is the first of two road games to start the season, with only a home tournament breaking up a stretch of five road games at the beginning of the schedule.
The Knights will have a week off before heading to River Valley next Tuesday. The two teams split three meetings last season, Havasu losing at the Mohave County Tournament, winning at home and playing to a scoreless tie on the road.
