Ashland groups celebrate King’s life

ASHLAND — The Boyd and Greenup county branches of the NAACP joined Martin Luther King Jr. Day services around the Tri-State on Monday morning with its annual celebration and freedom march at the Ashland Transportation Center.

The Rev. Stanley McDonald, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church and transportation director for Ashland Independent Schools, delivered the keynote address. Singing was provided by Mount Olive Baptist Church of Ironton, New Joy Gospel Singers of Columbus, Ohio, and Susan Taylor of Ironton.

The service was followed immediately by a march through Ashland from the transportation complex to First Presbyterian Church.

The event is co-sponsored by Ashland Community and Technical College and Pathways Inc.
