Sagamore Hills police rescue puppy left in hot vehicle

SAGAMORE HILLS, Ohio — The owner of a puppy was cited and the dog taken away after it was left in a cage in a vehicle in 90-degree heat, police say.

In a post on Facebook, police say they were called after a resident noticed the dog inside the locked vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found the dog was in a cage that was covered by a blanket in the vehicle. Police say it was 90 degrees at the time of the incident.

The owner of the puppy arrived at the car and told officers the dog was in no danger and that it was being checked on every hour.

“What?!?” the post says. “Most people know the interior of a car goes up 20-40 degrees on a hot day within minutes!”

The puppy was taken to Sagamore Hills Animal Hospital and remains under observation, police say.

The owner will not get the puppy back, according to police.

“Hopefully, they never get any animal as this is no way to treat them,” the post says.
