Banner County students earn day off with food donations

December 16, 2018

HARRISBURG — Banner County School held a food drive this month to give away to the community, which they showed off at the school’s Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 15.

Sophomores Aubrey Clement and Deven Sullivan, two of the student organizers with Cats Committed, said each class in the entire K-12 school was given the goal of bringing in enough food to cover up an entire door.

“We started off with cans going up to the doorknob,” Sullivan said.

“And then boxes of cereal or granola bars or stuff like that,” Clement said.

To give more incentive to the students, Principal Charles Jones said that if each grade was able to cover up a door, they would get to take Dec. 21 off. The students responded by covering up 13 doors, with some food extra.

While the school did not keep track of the total amount of food donated, Clement and Sullivan estimated that the sophomore class alone donated $200 in food.

The food will be available to the public at the school. Anything that is left will be donated to food drives.
