Man killed in Johnsonville accident identified

JOHNSONVILLE, S.C. – The person who died early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash near Johnsonville has been identified.

Joseph Monta Nesmith, 30, of Hemingway was killed in the accident at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Persimmon Ford Road, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened when a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that was south bound on South Persimmon Ford Road ran off the left side of the road near Deep Woods Road, into a ditch and then rolled several times, said Lance Cpl. Matt Southern, South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt and who was ejected, was transported to a Florence hospital where he later died, Southern said.
