23 child adoptions finalized at Rhode Island celebration
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Residents across Rhode Island have gathered to celebrate the placement of 23 children with new families as part of National Adoption Day.
More than 250 people attended Saturday’s event at the Kent County Courthouse in Warwick. The adoptions of 23 children with 19 families were finalized by state Family Court officials, who called the celebration one of the happiest days in the Rhode Island court system.
National Adoption Day is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Amanda and Cliff Choiniere, of Cumberland, adopted two children. Amanda Choiniere says she wants them to know they are loved and will be part of her family forever.
The celebration featured Disney characters, a balloon artist and speeches by parents and court officials.
