Convicted murderer charged with stabbing fellow inmate
CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island officials have released more information about an inmate-on-inmate stabbing at the state prison this week that led to a lockdown.
State police said Thursday that 50-year-old Brian Audette, who is a convicted murderer, used a handmade knife to stab another inmate Monday at the Adult Correctional Institutions maximum security facility in Cranston.
Audette was arraigned Thursday on charges including felony assault with a dangerous weapon. He was referred to the public defender’s office.
The victim was treated at Rhode Island Hospital for cuts and lacerations to his face, neck and upper back. He was later returned to prison.
Audette is serving a life sentence after pleading no contest to using a 25-pound dumbbell to beat a girlfriend to death in her Woonsocket apartment.
