DIXON – Fourth Fridays Open Mic begins at 7 p.m. at Post House Community Center, 100 W. Second St.
Each musician or band performs four songs, and a jam session follows. Instruments are acoustic, a sound system is provided, and poets and short-story writers are welcome.

Wicked Earl plays also performs Saturday, down the block a bit at The Cooler, 311 W. Second St.
Brushville will be playing high-energy country with a touch of classic rock from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Henry’s Double K, 834 S. Jackson St. in Mount Carroll.

MOUNT CARROLL The Mount Carroll Lions Club is offering a free Family Skate Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the ice rink in Point Rock Park.
Don’t have your own ice skates? No problem! A variety of sizes will be available to borrow.
There also will be free hot dogs, brats and hot chocolate, along with music and a warming fire.
If the weather turns bad, the event will move to Feb. 9.

‘Beer for Breakfast’
BYRON – Byron Civic Theatre presents the comedy “Beer for Breakfast,” a two-act play by Sean Grennan about a group of middle-aged buddies reuniting for a guys weekend, when Jessie, the wife of absent friend Adrian, shows up in his place.
Parental warning: There’s some adult content.
