Giants’ RF Rios Leaves Game

August 31, 2000

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ San Francisco Giants right fielder Armando Rios left Thursday’s game against Pittsburgh after running into a bullpen gate while making a backhanded catch.

With the Giants leading 10-0 in the sixth, Rios pulled up in front of the Pirates bullpen to catch Abraham Nunez’s foul fly ball. His momentum carried him into the steel mash gate, which nearly gave way as he struck it.

Rios lay on the outfield warning track for several minutes, in obvious pain, before walking off the field. There was no immediate word if he sustained any injuries.
