September 19, 2018

MADISON — Edgerton clipped Jefferson by a stroke at Monday’s Rock Valley girls golf meet hosted by McFarland at Yahara Hills.

With a total of 194, the Crimson Tide cut Jefferson’s overall lead to 2.5 points ahead of today’s RVC Championships. Lakeside Lutheran, led by a second-place 44 from Maya Heckmann, took third with 207 and is 10.5 points behind the Eagles overall.

Courtney Draeger tied for third on the day and led the Eagles with a 46. Bre DeBlare tied for sixth with a 48, followed by teammates Megan Gleisner (50), Hailey Milbrath (51) and Ainsley Howard (52, scratch).

“Tomorrow just got really interesting at Oak Ridge in Milton,” Jefferson coach Jeff Schmidt said. “Very proud of how the girls played tonight.

“Yahara is in rough shape after all the rain and it was very difficult being able to just find your ball the rough was so thick. Courtney started out rough with a bunch of double bogeys but really finished strong.”

Other Lakeside scores after Heckmann included Rebecca Lang (50), Ella Butzine (55), Grace Thomas (58) and Maddison Fenner (64, scratch). Heckmann has a higher average by 1.5 strokes than Draeger heading into the RVC finale.
