Jay Gruden ’100 percent confident’ Chris Thompson will be ready Week 1
RICHMOND Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Wednesdaythat he was “100 percent confident” running back Chris Thompson will be ready for Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Thompson is working his way back from a broken leg, which he suffered in November of last season. The running back participatedin 11-on-11 drills Tuesday for the first time since his injury and looked crisp.
Thompson, who estimated he received about a dozen reps, told reporters after practice that he doesn’t expect to be 100 percent until November.
But Gruden said Thompson should be ready to play when the season starts, barring a setback.
“The way he runs he looks faster right now just watching him on tape,” Gruden said. “His burst looks like it’s 100 percent back. Only he knows how he feels in terms as far as being 100 percent. Quite frankly, football players, not all of them are 100 percent anyway. If you get to 90 percent, you should be pretty good.
“He looks great right now. He’s still going to go through a lot of work as far as getting ready to play, so I anticipate he’ll be ready.”
