Oregon man claims Powerball jackpot; takes lump sum of $61M
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The man who bought a $150 million Powerball ticket in Oregon last month has claimed his prize.
Lottery officials said Friday that Steven Nickell carried the winning ticket in his wallet for two weeks before finding out he had all the right numbers in the June 20 drawing.
The Salem resident has opted to take a lump sum of $61 million. He and his wife have hired a financial planner and a lawyer, and they plan to be careful with their spending. Their goal is to make sure their family is taken care of for a long time.
This is the fifth time a winning Powerball jackpot ticket has been sold in Oregon.
