Fran Richardson Mears Named Baltimore Bureau Chief
NEW YORK (AP) _ Fran Richardson Mears has been named chief of bureau for The Associated Press in Baltimore, in charge of the AP’s operations in Maryland and Delaware.
The appointment was announced today by Louis D. Boccardi, president and chief executive officer of the news cooperative.
Mears, 44, will succeed Linda Stowell who has been appointed chief of bureau for AP’s operations in Pennsylvania, based in Philadelphia.
Mears joined the AP in 1982 in Indianapolis. She was named news editor for Indiana in 1990 after a brief hiatus from the AP. The Ball State University graduate was appointed assistant chief of bureau in Kansas City in 1992. She transferred to Washington Broadcast as manager of marketing communications in 1996 and took a one-year leave of absence last September.
The Laconia, N.H., native worked for The Indianapolis News, The New Castle (Ind.) Courier-Times and the Clearwater (Fla.) Sun before joining the AP.
