Fuser replaces injured Geldenhuys in Italy squad
ROME (AP) — Italy coach Jacques Brunel has called up Benetton Treviso lock Marco Fuser to his squad for the opening two Six Nations fixtures as a replacement for the injured Quintin Geldenhuys.
Geldenhuys, who has made 52 appearances for Italy, injured a ligament in his right knee in training and has been ruled out of the first two matches of the tournament.
The 23-year-old Fuser has played twice for Italy and was an unused member of last year’s Six Nations squad.
Italy, which finished last last year, opens its Six Nations campaign against defending champion Ireland on Feb. 7 at the Stadio Olimpico and travels to England the following week.
Brunel has chosen a relatively inexperienced squad, with five uncapped players.
